the gem project

The GEM Project at Sinai Health is an international research study attempting to determine possible causes for Crohn’s Disease by following healthy individuals who are at a higher risk for developing the disease over time.

Your gift supports Sinai Health’s Genetic, Environmental, Microbial (GEM) Project, a landmark international study led from Mount Sinai Hospital since 2008. GEM is the largest study of its kind, following more than 5,000 healthy first-degree relatives of individuals with Crohn’s disease to identify the earliest predictors and potential triggers of inflammatory bowel disease. By advancing this research, you are helping scientists better understand who is at risk and move closer to preventing disease before it begins.
